SNAKES INVADE GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL

Medical doctors at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH, took to the streets of Zaria, Kaduna state to protest. Their grouse includes that they have been chased out of the tertiary hospital by nothing but snakes and reptiles.

Dr Waziri Aliyu, president, National Association of Resident Doctors wing of ABUTH, declared that the protest had become necessary to draw the attention of the government to the deplorable state of the hospital as well as alleged mismanagement by those who manage it. “The poor environmental sanitation within the hospital and its environs had led to our member being bitten by a poisonous snake at the staircase of the surgical ward. Sad enough, he almost lost his life as he suffered from envenomation as the hospital could not provide anti-snake venom for its doctor on duty for over 36 hours after the snake bite,” said Aliyu.
