For a country that is
facing the prospect of not being represented on the podium for the second
Olympic running, it is quite refreshing to break records notwithstanding. This
much can be said as Nigeria has not only produced her first rower in the
Olympics but she has made it to the semi-final of the event; a first in the
annals of the country.
On Thursday August 10,
Chierika Ukogu will compete in Semifinal C/D 1 of the 2016 Rio Olympic Rowing
event with hopes of making it to the podium and claim the honour of being the
first Nigerian Olympic medallist in rowing.
The American-born Nigerian professional rower will
battle Saiyidah Mohamed, Kim Yeji,Anna Malvina, Saltyte Lina and Rouba Amina
for a place in the finals.
