Earlier
this week, the Federal Government re-introduced the War Against Indiscipline,WAI, in Abuja. Speaking
during the unveiling, the Director General of National Orientation Agency, NOA,
Dr Garba Abari said the current administration decided to re-introduce the
program for better performance in the fight against indiscipline and corruption.
But should everything in this country boil down to corruption only? Is anybody
thinking about hungry souls at all?
It seems President Muhammadu Buhari
is either not living in this country or he does just not care about the
well-being of the citizens he swore to protect and the constitution he seeks to
defend. Or how else can one fathom his incomprehensible actions in relation to
the brazen poverty in the country? Of all things to do in this country,
considering the economic hardship inherent in our society: kerosene has risen
from N50 to N200 in less than a year, petrol subsidy removed yet no benefits to the common man, naira in a free fall, mass sacking,
non-payment of salary, rising cost of goods and services et al, my dear
president could only think of one thing; re-inaugurating the War Against
Indiscipline, WAI, brigade, which he launched during his military regime in March 1984
Up till now, one is yet to identify
the direction the Nigerian economy is headed and there is sure no light seen
yet in this dark tunnel of ours. People are dying of hunger, but Mr President
seems less concerned. Mr Buhari better remember he was saved by just two
million votes in the last election, and if he continues down this
narrow-minded, stubborn approach, he might just be taught the Jonathan lesson
summed up in a Yoruba proverb that “the cane which was used to whip the first
wife is in the locker for the new bride.
