LAGOS GOES TOUGH ON PIPELINE VANDALS

Lagos State Government and the Joint Military Task Force have begun the clearing of Isawo and Yewa creeks in Ikorodu Area of the state weeks after violence was unleashed by rebellious vandals. On Thursday bulldozers were seen moving into the creeks, pulling down trees and illegal structures used as camps by suspected pipeline vandals.

This comes as a relief to residents of the area who have been concerned about their safety for quite some time.   “The clearing of the creeks is a welcome development and it is long overdue. “The creeks have been a security challenge to us. We believe that if the forest is cleared, the vandals will have no place to hide. “The pipeline vandals have been operating freely within the creeks of Arepo in Ogun State, Isawo, Yewa in Ikorodu area,’’ declared Chief Muse Ibrahim, he traditional ruler of Oke-Oko/Oke-Tapa communities.

He further urged the government to identify those involved in killings and burning of houses and bring them to book as soon as possible, whilst calling for the establishment of a military base as a permanent measure to check vandalism in the area.
