At least
13 people have been confirmed dead in an attack near a base for African Union
troops in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on today. An official at Mogadishu
International Airport, which is near the country’s most important military
base, said two suicide bombers

Confirming
the incident Abdifatah Omar Halene, the spokesman for the local government said
“thirteen people died in the two suicide vehicle explosions”.
Meanwhile,
Al-shabab has taken responsibility for the incident stating that its target was
th AU force headquarters. In a statement by its spokesman, Abdulaziz Abu
Muscab. "Our Mujahideen targeted Halane which is base to the foreign forces
occupying our Muslim country. We have killed dozens of them," he said.
Al-Shabab has frequently carried out
attacks in Somalia in order to oust the UN-backed government.
The Somali government, with the help
of AU forces, is fighting al-Shabab militants in several parts of the country,
pushing them out of the capital, but the group still holds large swathes of
territory and frequently launches hit-and-run attacks.
